RECYCLEMANIA

JANUARY 22 - 31st, 2012

See the article in last week's Compass and keeping watching this site for all the week's news and events!

RecycleMania begins Jan. 22

It’s that time again for Ohio University to compete against the MAC and other schools around the country in this year’s RecycleMania Tournament. The annual eight-week intercollegiate recycling competition officially begins February 6, 2012.  But why wait that long? The two week pre-season begins January 22nd.

During the competition last year, Ohio University recycled an average of 39.5% of total waste during the eight week period. Including students, staff, and faculty, that is an average of about 18 pounds per person.  Do your part and join the team effort to reduce waste and decrease disposal costs while upping the bar with the MAC and other schools around the country.

You can also participate in our “Track the Trikes” competition.  This year, two tricycles will act as moving billboards for RecycleMania.  If you see one of the RecycleMania Trikes, snap a picture and upload it to www.facebook.com/sustainableou.  The best photo of the week will win a prize.  Get in the Game!

The Recycling and Refuse Office consists of one manager, one supervisor and approximately eight student staff. We work closely with the Office of Sustainability, Facilities Management, and other campus departments and organizations to encourage a culture of reusing, reducing, and recycling on the Ohio University campus.

We maintain a collection contract with the Athens County Recycling Center for recycling and trash collection. They also work with local non-profit reuse organizations such as APAC (Appalachian Peoples Action Coalition), Re-Use Industries, New To You, Albany Tutoring Center and other organizations for dispersing of items diverted away from conventional trash disposal at a landfill.
