FALL & SPRING SEMESTERS

COMMUTER PERMITS

Commuter permits MUST be purchased in person at the Parking Services Office and can not be requested online.

Valid Areas:

Commuter permits are valid in any of the purple commuter lots only and is NOT guaranteed parking. Please refer to the campus parking map for these lot locations.

Fees & Payments:

Commuter permits are $125 per school year and must be purchased for the school year at the time of purchase. A school year consists of Fall and Spring Semesters. This permit is also valid during winter and spring breaks.

Students who will only be attending Ohio University a portion of the year may wait until the permit is needed to purchase it or return the permit when it is no longer needed for a prorated refund. All permit fees will be billed to the student's University account.

Commuter Permit Eligibility & Proof of Residency:

* Must be a student that does not reside in a residence hall or fraternity house.

* Students who live in Mill Street Village, Riverpark Towers, Riversedge, University Commons, Grace Apartments, University Courtyard, and The Summit are not eligible for commuter permits. Other apartment complex's may not be eligible but not listed here.

* Commuter permits must be purchased by anyone wishing to park on campus commuting from an outside location to include those in possession of a disability permit. For more information on parking for those with a disability, please refer to the Disability Parking Information Section.

* Commuter permits are issued to those who live one mile outside the nearest commuter lot. Walking routes (not driving routes) are used to determine this one mile radius from the home to determine eligibility.
* Must have registered a vehicle with Parking Services (license plate required).
* Permits must be purchased in person at the Department of Parking Services, 100 Factory Street. A driver's license and Student ID is required to purchase a permit.
* All commuter students must present a copy of their local lease upon purchasing a commuter permit. The lease must be:

  • Current (or for the upcoming school year if purchasing in advance for a new school year).
  • Valid (dates must clearly indicate the lease is for the school year in which the permit being purchased. Parking Services is unable to accept leases in which an past date has been crossed out with a new date written in).
  • Complete (the lease must include the name of the student purchasing the permit, the full address where the student will be living, the valid dates of the lease, and it must be signed by both the tenant and the landlord).

* Students living with a friend or with their parents who are not included on a lease may present the following items as proof of residency after August 12, 2013 for the upcoming school year (only a lease will be accepted prior to that date).

  • A recent utility bill including the name of the student purchasing
the permit and the address where the student will be living.
  • Recent non-OU bill or mailing in the name of the student purchasing the permit and including the address in which the student will be living. Examples of this are: utility bills such as gas, electric, and cable; credit card statements, cell phone bill statements, junk mail (dated within last 30 days), bank statements, and magazines. Electronic statements are acceptable for utility bills (water, electric sewer, and cable only), and cell phone bills only. All electronic statements must show the commuting address.
  • An addendum from the lessee (the lessee is the property owner--not a roommate) indicating the individual is living at the residence is also acceptable (this cannot be a handwritten note).

Items we cannot accept as proof of residency are: Handwritten mail, Ohio University Mail, mail without a postmark date, and a lease that has dates or names that have been changed or altered. Permits revoked for illegal permits are not refundable - students will lose parking priviledges on campus for one year from date of occurrence.

Students unable to provide proof of a local address will not be able to purchase a permit until such proof can be provided. Commuter permits are always available and do not "sell out". Commuter students are expected to leave campus on a daily basis - parking overnight for extended periods will result in the permit being revoked.

Winter and Spring Break Parking:

Commuter permits are valid during Winter and Spring breaks the same as during semester periods. Students who are not eligible for a commuter permit during fall and spring semesters due to residential proximity to campus may be eligible for a "break" permit. Additionally, students only needing a break permit may purchase a permit specifically for the winter or spring break periods. Please contact Parking Services at 740-593-1917 for more information.

Parking Services reserves the right to refuse the sale of a permit to anyone unable to provide documentation of their residence until further proof can be provided or to anyone claiming to commute from an unreasonable distance from campus.

Furthermore, commuter permits are for students who are traveling to campus on a daily basis. Commuter permits may not be used for overnight parking. Vehicles parked overnight belonging to a commuter permit holder are subject to a fine and/or towing fees
