The following violations pertaining to parking on campus are in effect at all times. This list of infractions is provided to help students avoid inconvenience when parking on campus. Please contact Parking Services at 740-593-1917 for information or assistance.

Blocking Driveway
Fine is $20. Any vehicle that blocks an entrance is subject to a citation. |

Disregard to Painted Lines
Fine is $20. Any vehicle parked in a University lot must be within the parking lines painted in each lot. Parking in an area not designated as an actual parking space is prohibited. |

Overtime Parking
Fine is $20 for each occurrence. Parking spaces with specific time frames must be obeyed at all times. 30-minute spaces allow a vehicle to be cited every 30 minutes, one hour spaces allow a vehicle to be cited every hour, etc. In addition, your vehicle can be towed or booted. |

Outside Permit Area
Fine is $20. Displaying a permit in a lot where the permit is not valid. Permits are only valid in their specific lot. |

Illegal Use of a Permit
Fine is $100. Includes, but is not limited to, use of an altered permit, reproduction of a permit, use of a lost or stolen permit, or using a permit that was not issued to you. |

Illegally Parked in a Handicapped Space
Fine is $250. Only those with a handicapped permit can park in handicap spaces. Strictly enforced. |

Misuse of a Handicapped Permit
Fine is $250. Use of a handicapped permit that does not belong to vehicle driver/owner and use of a handicapped permit that has been stolen, lost, or altered. |

Parked along a Curb
Fine is $20. Vehicles cannot park along curbs or any other non-parking areas. Hazard lights cannot be used for parking in these areas. |

Permit Improperly Displayed
Fine is $10. Permits must be clearly displayed from the rear-view mirror. Parking attendants are not required to visually search the interior of a vehicle to clearly see a permit. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner/driver to ensure permits are properly displayed and clearly visible. Air fresheners and mirror decorations should be placed behind the permit to prevent obstruction of the permit. |

Parked in a Fire Lane
Fine is $50. Vehicles cannot park along or block a fire lane at any time for any reason. Strictly enforced. Firelanes are the entire marked area - not just where the red paint is. |

Parked in Roadway
Fine is $20. Vehicles cannot park in the roadway at any time for any reason. |

Permit not Displayed
Fine is $20. Vehicles parked in any Ohio University lot must display a permit. Can also be used when a permit is not displayed for the specific lot the vehicle was parked in. |

Parked on Grass
Fine is $20. Vehicles cannot park in the grass at any time for any reason. |

Signs Prohibiting Parking
Fine is $20. Vehicles cannot park in areas designated as prohibited parking areas for any reason at any time. Hazard lights are not recognized as a reason for parking in these areas. |

Parked in Crosswalk
Fine is $20. Any vehicle that parks in a marked crosswalk blocking pedestrian traffic is subject to a fine. |

Other Violation
Fine is $20. This violation is used when no other description fits the infraction. It is always accommodated by an explanation in the additional information section of the fine. |

License Plate Violation
Fine is $30. Any vehicle not displaying a valid/current (non-expired) license plate is subject to be fined on the campus of Ohio University. |

Stop Sign Violation
Fine is $30. Ohio University Police Officers may issue a citation for disobeying a stop sign. |

Illegal Speed
Fine is $50. Ohio University Police Officers may issue a citation for disobeying posted speed limits. |

Private/Restricted Lot
Fine is $20. Any lot posted as a private or restricted lot requires a special permit. Any vehicle parked in this type of lot is subject to be fined. |

Commuter Parked Overnight Repeatedly
Fine is $20. Commuters are expected to leave campus on a daily basis. Overnight parking in a commuter lot is prohibited without prior permission from Parking Services. |

Abandoned Vehicle
Fine is $20. Any vehicle parked illegally for more than 48 hours or obviously unable to be driven due to damage, etc. will be considered abandoned and is subject to a fine and towing or immobilization fees. Overnight parking is prohibited without prior approvval from Parking Services. |

Invalid/Expired Permit
Fine is $20. Displaying an invalid or expired permit will result in a fine. Permits may be renewed at Parking Services. |

Parked on Sidewalk
Fine is $20. Sidewalks are intended for pedestrian traffic. Any vehicle parked on a sidewalk will be fined and towed at the owner's expense. |

Expired Meter
Fine is $5. Each meter has a "rate plate" posted on the front of it indicating how much money is required to obtain time on a meter. Any vehicle parked at a meter displaying "expired" will first receive a $5 expired meter fine. Subsequent and more expensive citations may be issued thereafter. $5 meter violations escalate to $10 if they are not paid within 48 hours. |

Friendly Reminder
Fine is $0. This is used to remind a customer of a permit soon needing to be renewed (not after it has already expired) or other infraction as deemed necessary. If reminders are not heeded, they are typically followed up with a violation. |
