General Information
The Baker University Center Garage has 100 numbered, reserved spaces in which any active Faculty/Staff or Student in good standing with the University may apply to be included in the lottery. These reserved spaces are issued on a yearly basis (September - August) and are issued on a first request, first issued basis. For more information regarding the application process to participate in this lottery, please complete the Application.
There are also non-reserved spaces within the Baker University Center Garage. These spaces are intended for guests who wish to pay a fee based on the amount of time their vehicle has been parked within the facility. Guests will retrieve a ticket upon entering the garage. Upon exiting the garage, the ticket will determine the amount due. For more information regarding fees, please review the Hourly, Paid Parking Guidelines and Information section.
Hours of Operation
This facility is open to those with a reserved space 24 hours-a-day, 7 days a week. There is no overnight parking within this facility for those who do not have a reserved space. The non-reserved spaces may not be used between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. daily. Any vehicle parked in a non-reserved space between these hours may be cited and/or towed at the owner/driver’s expense. If the vehicle is not towed, the vehicle will be charged an hourly garage fee upon exit.
Storage of vehicles in the facility for longer than 22 consecutive hours is prohibited unless prior authorization has been granted by Parking Services.
Holiday Parking
During University recognized holidays where the Baker University Center is closed, parking within the non-reserved spaces are free of charge. Free access will begin at 12:01 a.m. on the first day of the holiday and will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on the last day of the holiday. Please note that the Center remains open during most University holidays.
Entry/Exit Method and Permit Recognition
A gate card permit will be issued to those who purchase a reserved space. The gate card permit will serve as the method of entry into the garage as well as the permit allowing parking within the number-specific space. Each reserved space holder is assigned a specific numbered space as indicated on the gate card permit. This permit is only valid within the specified space.
To use a gate card permit for garage entrance, pull up to the gate, take the gate card permit, and waive it up and down slowly (approximately 6-8 inches in front of the dark grey card reader) until the gate goes up. Once the gate rises, re-hang the permit clearly on the rearview mirror and proceed to the assigned space for the permit. Failure to display a gate card permit while parked in a reserved space may result in a citation and/or towing fees.
If a reserved gate card permit holder arrives at their reserved space to find someone illegally parked within their space, immediately notify Parking Services during regular office hours (Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) or the Ohio University Police Department after regular office hours. Every attempt will be made to clear the illegally parked vehicle from the reserved space. In the meantime, the gate card permit holder may park in any non-reserved space in the garage for a maximum of 1 hour to allow adequate time for the illegally parked vehicle to be removed. However, finding an illegally parked vehicle within your reserved space is NOT an excuse to park illegally within another reserved space, a disability space, or an area not marked as a parking space. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed.
If the purchased gate card permit is not available at the time of entry or exit, the non-reserved garage fee must be paid. No temporary gate card permits will be issued.
Timed or non-reserved spaces are intended for campus visitors who do not have a campus parking permit. Any vehicle displaying a gate card permit and parked within a non-reserved space will be cited and/or towed. All vehicles with a gate card permit are required to park within the assigned reserved space.
This facility is equipped with the “Active Pass-Back” system. This means a gate card permit must be used for one entry and one exit consecutively. Using the gate card out of sequence may cause the gate card to become deactivated. The user must be sure to use the gate card to enter and exit—even if the gate arm is already raised.
Tow Truck Entry/Exit
Tow trucks intending to service a vehicle within the garage must enter the garage as any other vehicle wishing to utilize a non-reserved space. Simply take a time-stamped ticket upon entering the garage. When exiting the garage, pull up to the exit and use the intercom to call dispatch. Dispatch will ask for the time-stamped ticket number, subsequently raising the gate to allow the tow truck to exit.
State Vehicle Access
General state vehicle access will not be permitted in the pay facility unless hourly fees are paid. State vehicle parking is available on the upper deck (lot 122) of the facility. Should state vehicle access be required in the pay facility due to operational needs, Parking Services should be notified prior to entrance and arrangements will be made.
Motorcycle and Scooter Parking
Motorcycles are not permitted to park within this facility due to the limitations of the parking gates. Motorcycle parking areas are located in convenient locations around campus. Please refer to the campus parking map for these locations (marked as MC on the map).
Routine Maintenance
Through on-going maintenance, Transportation and Parking Services strives to maintain safe and clean parking facilities. Every attempt is made to provide access to all garages year-round. Some maintenance projects require that areas in the garage be restricted ensure vehicular and pedestrian safety. Customers will be notified of impending maintenance by signs posted at the entrance to the facility in advance whenever possible. Additional parking locations will be offered to reserved space holders if reserved spaces are affected.
