Q: What should I bring?
A: We can't decide exactly what each of you should bring, but we do have the following necessities and nice (but not necessary) suggestions based on years of experience. In addiiton, we have provided a general list of items that you should not bring.
Necessities
- Alarm clock
- Backpack
- Bedspread, pillow
- Blankets, sheets, pillow case, mattress pad
- Class schedule and Undergraduate Catalog
- Clothes hangers
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Computer disks (CD data storage or USB storage devices)
- Desk lamp
- Dust rag, dust spray, and bathroom cleaning supplies
- First aid kit
- Laundry supplies and rolls of quarters if not using Bobcat Cash
- Notebooks, pens, pencils, tape, stapler, paper clips, scissors
- Raincoat, umbrella (we suggest 2 - one to have and one to lose)
- Shower bucket (to carry your shower supplies)
- Shower shoes
- Shower soap
- Student Handbook
- Telephone and/or answering machine
- Towels and washcloths
- U.L.-approved surge bars or power strips
Nice but not necessary
- Carpet or rug
- Dish washing supplies
- Fan
- Iron with travel ironing board
- Memo board or bulletin board
- Molding hooks plasti-tac and removable tape
- Mugs and glasses
- Paper towels
- Room decorations and posters
- Sewing kit
- Shoe bag or rack
- Silverware and microwave-safe dishes
- Stamps and stationery
- Stereo and CDs
- Television and coaxial cable
- Under-the-bed storage boxes
- Bike w/ bike lock
Q: Are there items that I shouldn't bring?
A. For your own health and safety, the following items are prohibited in the residence halls:
- Weapons, including firearms and martial arts-related
- Cooking appliances, including crock pots, grills, toasters, or toaster ovens
- Alcohol (if you are under the legal age of 21)
- Candles
- Crock pots
- Explosives
- Fishnet or paper lanterns
- Hot plate or any open-coil cooking appliance
- Illegal drugs
- Microwave or refrigerator (refrigerator and microwave provided)
- Pets (other than fish)
- Posters that will cover more than 25 percent of your walls
- Toaster or toaster oven
