Housing Guidelines

All students with fewer than *90 undergraduate credit hours and less than two years as a full-time student must reside in university-owned housing and participate in the associated mandatory meal plan. Students requesting to be exempt from university housing and/or meal plan must do so in writing by completing an exemption request.

*Credit hours earned by students while attending high school (via advanced placement, House Bill 140, etc.) will not be considered toward exemption eligibility from the housing requirements.

Please note that completing an exemption form does not automatically exempt the student from housing. After an approval process that may take up to 4-6 weeks to complete, the student will be notified of his or her exemption status. A Housing Exemption/Termination Request form may be obtained from our Online Forms section. Each individual must meet the university's criteria as outlined below for exemption eligibility.

  • Students enrolled for fewer than 11 quarter hours during the academic year and for fewer than 4 hours per summer session.
  • Single parents or married students residing with their spouse or children within 50 miles of the university.
  • Students residing with parents or legal guardians whose permanent residence is within 50 miles of the university.
  • Veterans having 18 months or more of active military service.

Room Selection

To participate in Returning Student Room Selection held each spring quarter for the following fall quarter's housing, submit this sheet to the Housing office no later than April 1 to request a housing contract. Room assignments for winter and spring quarters are completed from your selections on the housing contract.

Payment

Fall quarter requires a $200 housing deposit and is refundable if housing is canceled in writing prior to June 1 or until you have selected a permanent room, whichever comes first. The $200 housing deposit is also required for winter quarter prior to December 1, and for spring quarter prior to March 1 upon submission of your housing contract.  Full payment may be due after December 1 and March 1.  All refund requests and room cancellations must be completed in writing.
