Housing Guidelines

Ohio University requires all first and second year students to reside on campus and participate in a meal plan for two academic years (6 quarters/4 semesters). In most cases this period comprises the freshmen and sophomore years at OHIO. Consideration for housing examption is given for those with two full years of college credit earned after high school graduation. Students wishing to be exempted form universtiy housing and/or meal plan must submit a housing exemption/termination request form for review and approval. A Housing Exemption/Termination Request form may be obtained from our Online Forms section

*Credit hours earned by students while attending high school (via advanced placement, House Bill 140, etc.) will not be considered toward exemption eligibility from the housing requirements.  

Please note that completing an exemption form does not automatically exempt the student from housing. The approval process may take up to 4-6 weeks to complete. The student will be notified of his or her exemption status after all documents are reviewed. . Each individual must meet the university's criteria as outlined below for exemption eligibility.

Room Selection

To participate in Returning Student Room Selection held each spring quarter for the following fall quarter's housing, submit this online form no later than April 1 to complete a housing contract. Room assignments for winter and spring quarters are completed from your selections on the housing contract.

Payment

A $200 housing deposit is required and must be submitted with the online housing contract. The deposit is refundable by notifying the Residential Housing office in writing prior to June 1st for fall quarter, December 1st for winter quarter, and March 1st for spring quarter, unless you have participated in the returning student room selection process and selected a permanent room (fall quarter).
