Computers

Ohio University has a wealth of computer resources available throughout campus. In addition, students are provided the opportunity to participate in the Go Mobile Program or bring their own computer from home. Wireless internet access is available across campus and all rooms have an Ethernet jack and cable. Please visit http://technology.ohio.edu/internet/ to learn more about Internet access on campus.

Please note: If the student is bringing a Windows computer to campus, the instructions at http://technology.ohio.edu/computers/sce/bring.html must be followed in order to secure the computer before connecting to the network.

If the student connects to a Windows computer to the University network without first following the instructions at the website above, their network access could be disabled.

Telephone

A campus telephone line is included in each room with no charge for local service. All students should bring a telephone and answering machine with them to campus. Long-distance service is available with a Bobcat Calling Card account, which you can activate when you arrive on campus. You can also make collect calls or use your calling card from home.

Refrigerator/Freezer/Microwave Unit

Each room is equipped with a combination refrigerator/freezer and microwave. This convenience makes late-night snacks much easier and safer than the traditional (and forbidden) hot plate. Please know that the electrical capacity is limited, so adding an additional refrigerator unit is not permitted.

Cable Television

The University CATVision provides a full lineup of channels, which includes a movie channel, foreign language channels, and news from around the world. This cable service is available in each room at no additional charge. All that is needed is a cable-ready television and a coaxial cable.
