Building and Grounds Services provides grounds, custodial, recycling, and waste removal services to the University Community. The unit consists of University Custodial Services, University Grounds Services, and Recycling and Refuse Services. Our goal is to provide and maintain a safe and clean environment for our students, staff, and faculty to live, learn, work and play.
- University Custodial Services provides cleaning services for all academic buildings, office areas, and residence halls on campus.
- University Grounds Services builds on the natural beauty of the Athens area by providing a high quality landscape maintenance service for 650 acres of University property.
- The Recycling and Refuse Department, otherwise known as Campus Recycling, Recycling is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, troubleshooting and upgrading the recycling and solid waste handling at campus buildings and grounds areas.
Our main office is at the Facilities and Auxiliaries office complex located at the intersection of 1 Riverside Drive and 1 Factory Street.

University Custodial Services
University Custodial Services provides cleaning for all buildings on campus and consist of Custodial Services and Residential Custodial Services.
The Custodial Services (CS) segment is responsible for the cleaning activities in all buildings that receive General Fund and General Fee support. Custodial Services is a three-shift operation that covers over 4,000,000 gross square feet of space. Each shift is its own work group and is referred to by their working hours, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shifts. The Resident Custodial Services (RCS) segment is responsible for the cleaning activities in all Dormitory Buildings on campus. Residential Custodial Services is divided into 3 segments designated by greens; they are East Green (including Adams Hall), West Green (including Bromley) and South Green and are responsible for the cleaning of all 42 Resident Halls on Campus. University Grounds Services
University Grounds Services provides maintenance and care to the grounds throughout campus. The Department is responsible for landscape design, installation, and maintenance; herbaceous bed planting and maintenance; ornamental lawn renovation and maintenance; recreational and intercollegiate field preparation, tree renovation and maintenance, and the care of a 50 acre golf course with an accompanying driving range. Other services provided include litter pick-up, snow and ice removal, street and parking lot maintenance, grounds equipment maintenance and heavy equipment support for Grounds and other Facilities Management and Auxiliary projects. Recycling and Refuse Services manages an aggressive recycling and solid waste management service for all residence halls, General Fund buildings, renovation and construction projects, and special events.
